What Is Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study?

Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) serving Summit County, Portage County, and Chippewa Township in Wayne County. AMATS is one of 17 MPOs in Ohio. These organizations were established as a result of the 1962 Federal Aid Highway Act, which required urban areas with more than 50,000 residents to establish a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive transportation planning process in order to receive federal funds for transportation improvements. Currently, there are about 385 MPOs throughout the US.
