The Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group supplies 20% of the world's lysine and 35% of the world's threonine. Founded in 1984 as Heartland Lysine, Inc. a joint venture between Ajinomoto Co., Inc. and Les Produits Organiques du Santerre, S.A. (Orsan) to produce feed-grade lysine, the company began production at its Eddyville facility in 1986 with 66 employees and an initial investment of $30 million. Ajinomoto Co., Inc. is the sole shareholder of Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group, Inc. The Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition North America, Inc. Eddyville facility has continually expanded its lysine production capacity as well as its product portfolio, adding threonine production in 2002 and AjiPro®-L Rumen Protected Lysine in 2011. Recently, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. announced that the Eddyville plant will begin manufacturing feed-grade tryptophan in 2017, through the introduction of new fermentation production technology, becoming the first feed-grade tryptophan producer in North America.
