A.W. Hastings & Co. is embarking on a very special journey-and we need your help! We are partnering with the Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity to build a new home for a family in need in the Springfield, Massachusetts area. The first Habitat home to be built entirely by a whole house sponsor, the endeavor has been dubbed the HOPE Project, for Hastings, Ownership, People & Empowerment. We are seeking donations of money and expertise to make this dream a reality. The HOPE Project has its roots in a very generous gift. A parcel of land at the corner of Carew and Bartlett Streets in Springfield's North End has been donated by Tom Henshon, President of general contractor and real estate development company Pearson Systems. Steve Gelling, Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, said the project is already one-of-a-kind. "Usually there is a combination of efforts that come together to make a new Habitat home happen," Gelling said. "Having a private land donor combined with a whole house sponsor who is providing all of the labor is truly a unique experience for us." Founded in 1987, Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity's goal is to bring people who need decent housing together with people who can help. Habitat offers a homeownership program to families unable to obtain conventional house financing. The selected family will put in 300 to 500 hours of sweat equity into building their home and other families' homes. Dusty Hoyt, President of A.W. Hastings & Co., said that everyone in the company is proud and excited to take on this project. "We have just finished celebrating our 150th year in business; in doing so, we have realized how fortunate we have been to grow and thrive thanks to the support of so many people. It seems to us that along with good fortune comes the inherent responsibility to give something back to our community."
