What Is A.O. Hardee and Son?

A.O. Hardee & Son, Inc. was founded fifty years ago with a dedication to quality and a determination to succeed, and grew over the years with a reputation for getting the job done right. Founded by Allen O' Brien Hardee and now headed by his son, Benjy Hardee, the firm and its employees have always focused on providing clients with work that exceeds their expectations. In the early years the company constructed many drainage and soil basin projects for the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, working from Virginia to Georgia. We also worked on numerous projects for the state of South Carolina, and handled various construction needs in the local coastal Carolina region. With the rapid growth of the Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand areas in the early 90's, the company experienced substantial growth, along with offering diversity in services. A.O. Hardee & Son, Inc. was now qualified as a Highway, Bridge, and Water Treatment Plant Constructor, with an Unlimited Classification in both North and South Carolina. The company has played an important part in the region's disaster recovery efforts. When the state experienced the devastation of Hurricane Hugo, we were chosen by cities and governmental agencies for the monumental task of rebuilding the area's beaches. After Hurricanes David, Bertha, Floyd, and others, we worked diligently to repair roads, infrastructure, and drainage systems. These challenges matured our employees to better handle tight project schedules and deadlines. A. O. Hardee & Son, Inc. has completed many notable projects, such as the Carolina Bays Parkway, a 22 mile SCDOT project, and the Conway Bypass (pictured here.) Our private development projects include Broadway At The Beach, an award-winning Myrtle Beach destination that attracts millions of visitors each year, and the Grande Dunes Golf & Marina Resort, a 2000-acre upscale development stretching from the ocean to the Intercoastal Waterway.
