What Is (IRTC) formerly Kalmar RT Center?

In 1995 Kalmar had started a project called RTCH, or Rough Terrain Container Handler. The objective was to develop, produce and market machines for construction industry contractors, civil engineering companies, and military customers. The Kalmar Rough Terrain Center (KRTC) was later established in August 1999 and consisted of a one building facility. In April 2000, KRTC received a contract with the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) for the supply of the RTCH. As a result, KRTC was also awarded three additional contracts for vehicle maintenance, field service support, and aftermarket parts sales. In October of 2008, Kalmar RTC was awarded a 5 year contract with the US Department of Defense for manufacturing the RTCH at the Cibolo, TX facility. The KRTC Rough Terrain Container Handler is a unique machine capable of handling both twenty and forty foot containers. The top handler which picks up the containers is hydraulically controlled to expand from twenty to forty feet. This expansion is controlled from the comfortable heated or air conditioned operator\'s compartment. The model RT 240 is capable of handling loads weighing up to 53,000 pounds and stacking containers three high.
