What Is DandG Machine Products?

D&G Machine Products, Inc. is a privately held company incorporated under the laws of the State of Maine. David Gushee and Fred Loring founded D&G in 1967 in a one-car garage behind Dave's house. We specialized in producing custom tooling and dies for capital equipment manufacturers located in and around Portland. During the first five years we added fabrication and welding to complement our rapidly expanding machining capabilities. We also introduced field services to expand our capabilities. By 1972 we had outgrown our shop, we expanded our operations to a site on the South Portland waterfront. In 1987 Fred Loring left the company, at this time Dave Gushee brought in four junior partners, Chuck Tarling, Ken Pritchard, Steve Sullivan and Duane Gushee. By 1993 we had outgrown the South Portland facility and then moved to our present facility here in Westbrook. In 1996 Dave Gushee retired leaving ownership of D&G to the four junior partners. By 1998 we had outgrown the 55,000 sq-ft facility, and added 35,000 additional square feet. And then again in 2001 we added a 12,000 sq-ft facility at 3 Eisenhower Drive, our light-manufacturing center. The emerging high-tech market of the 1970's demanded that we provide more sophisticated design and engineering services. Prototype design and engineering analysis were soon added to our credentials. To remain competitive, in 1980 our first CNC vertical milling center went online, followed shortly by CNC turning and horizontal milling centers. In 1994 our first full 5 axis CNC machining center was added to a long list of high-tech CNC machine tools. Later in the 1990's we became certified to ISO-9002, making our quality program recognized worldwide. As our company matured, we have effectively managed and controlled production growth through strict quality, production, cost control, and accounting systems. These systems have been integrated, giving managers accurate information when they need it. Today, the D&G team numbers more than 130 highly skilled personnel dedicated to providing our customers with the engineering excellence, product quality, and on time performance they have come to expect.
