What Is CPI Books UK?

CPI Books is the Trade book printing division of CPI Group UK and is part of the CPI Group, Europe's leading book printer. It manufactures in two locations: its Chatham site (formerly Mackays of Chatham) prints and binds paperback and hardback books; its Croydon site (formerly White Quill Press) prints and finishes book covers, jackets and plate sections. CPI Books Chatham site is CPI's largest book manufacturing site in the UK, with 194 staff making an average of 400,000 books every 24 hours. Founded in 1857, the company was acquired by CPI in 1999. CPI Group (UK) Ltd is one of the country’s leading print groups, employing 900 people across six locations. It manufactures around 160 million books every year, as well as countless journals and commercial print products. The company is a full service provider to the publishing industry, offering design/typesetting, ebook conversion, paper supply, warehousing and distribution. CPI UK comprises two divisions: Trade Books (CPI Books and CPI Books Croydon) and STMA/Colour (CPI Colour, CPI Connect, CPI William Clowes and CPI Antony Rowe). The STMA/Colour division provides typesetting, printing and distribution services for academic and journal publishers. Its commercial printing company, CPI Colour, prints brochures, reports and marketing materials for the corporate, design agency and luxury retail markets. CPI Connect specialises in point-of-purchase. CPI UK is part of CPI Group, the largest black and white book printer in Europe with the capacity to manufacture 700 million books each year and employing 3,500 people across 17 plants in five different countries (France, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Czech Republic). The group prints 500 million pages every day and handles 45,000 orders each month. CPI works with more than 2,000 publishers across Europe.
