What Is Alberta Construction Safety Association?

When asked what we do here at the ACSA, we generally talk about our unmatched quality in safety training, our delivery of the COR/SECOR certification programs, and our successful administration of the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and Health & Safety Administrator (HSA) designations.\n\nThere is more to the ACSA than just what we do, though. We are your partner in construction safety, and through our training, we work hard to connect a community of safety leaders in the province's construction industry. \n\nIn partnership with this growing community, we build links & connections with our stakeholders and industry partners, influencing change and instilling a culture of safety. We champion the safety spirit, empowering employees & employers to make workplaces safer.\n\nOn November 9, 1988, the ACSA was founded as a not-for-profit organization under the province’s new Societies Act. Its first instructional courses – WHMIS Train-the-trainer, Safety Basics, and Safety Basics Audit – commenced in 1989 in Edmonton. At the time, the ACSA had just three employees.\n\nThirty years later, we now offer over 30 safety training courses across the province & we have a staff of 70. We administer over 5,000 COR certifications and have built a community of 15,000 NCSOs and HSAs. In 2016, we celebrated our one millionth student. With almost 40,000 active members, we are the largest safety association in the province.\n\nOur members include any employer with a valid WCB account that falls within specified industry codes in the construction class. Our funding is partly provided through levies collected by WCB, and we are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of members from the construction industry, trade associations, and eight regions. \n\nSince our inception, we have built a solid and trustworthy reputation for leading safety training in Alberta and throughout Canada. Construction companies in Alberta rely on the ACSA for their safety training.
