Smart & Final Inc., a 56.7%-owned subsidiary of Casino USA, Inc., sells food, foodservice products and culinary equipment through warehouse stores, wholesale stores and broadline foodservice distribution businesses. Sales from grocery items accounted for 24.9% of the Company's total sales in 2002, while dairy, produce, meat and bakery items, as well as frozen food items accounted for 24.4% and 13.3%, respectively. Smart & Final's major operations include the non-membership warehouse grocery stores segment (Stores) and the broadline foodservice distribution segment (Foodservice). The Company's principal subsidiary is Smart & Final Stores Corporation, which also operates a cash-and-carry division. In September 2003, the Company sold its foodservice direct delivery business units and its Florida stores. Gordon Food Service purchased the Florida foodservice direct delivery and stores businesses, and Sysco Corporation purchased the northern California foodservice direct delivery operations.
