Owen Holmes, Jr., the founder of Holmes Stamp Company, started making stamps in his garage. What started out as a hobby became a business in 1954. Mr. Holmes retired in 1985, after founding and establishing a very successful business, which, by the time of his retirement, had come to manufacture not only stamps, but also notary seals and engraved signs. After his retirement, Mr. Holmes' son, known as Skeets, who had worked for his father since 1975, ran Holmes Stamp Company. Bob Croft, a partial owner since 1985 who had started at Holmes Stamp Company as a delivery driver at age 19, took over upon Skeets' retirement in 1998
