Carmeuse North America has a corporate history that has both depth and breadth. Carmeuse S.A., the Belgium-based parent company, was founded in 1860. Carmeuse S.A. is the leader of the worldwide Carmeuse Group, an organization with operations in 22 countries, with 107 lime production plants, 5,900 employees, and production of more than 37 million tons of lime and limestone products annually. The Carmeuse Group created Carmuse North America through a series of acquisitions between 1992 and 1998 to anchor its position in the U.S. and Canada. Early acquisitions of large lime producers included Beachville Lime Limited, Marblehead Lime, Inc., Pennsylvania Lime, Inc., Ohio Lime, Inc., Millersville Lime, Inc., Detroit Lime, Northern Lime Limited, and Dundas Lime Limited. The 1998 acquisition of the Pittsburgh-based Dravo Corporation was the latest component of this successful growth strategy. Today, Carmeuse North America has 14 plants east of the Mississippi River that supply and serve 27 states, Quebec, and Ontario with lime and lime products. We employ more than 1,400 people and can produce up to 8.7 million tons of lime annually. Our corporate offices are in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
