About
Hood River Distillers has a rich and colorful history dating to 1935 when it began making fruit wines and brandies from the apples, pears and berries that were going to waste as excess from the valley's abundant harvests. In those early days, HRD was using 470,000 boxes of Oregon apples annually to make such products as Old Delicious Brandy. Production capacity then was 300,000 gallons per year. Today, HRD is the largest and oldest distillery in the Northwest with a production capacity of five million cases annually. The company creates, produces, imports and distributes 15 brands of spirits ranging from value to premium products: whisky, rum, gin, vodka, schnapps, Irish cream whiskey, scotch and liqueurs. While HRD distributes spirits in over 40 states, the core distribution area is Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Montana and Alaska. For example, one out of every four bottles of liquor sold in Oregon is an HRD product. HRD is headquartered near the town of Hood River, Ore., with its post card setting along the Columbia River and with majestic Mt. Hood standing guard over the valley. Hood River is best known for its world-class outdoor sports, such as windsurfing, kiteboarding, skiing and hiking, but increasingly, connoisseurs of fine spirits are hearing about Hood River because of the premium spirits brands distributed by Hood River Distillers.
